Evasive.ca is the wildest safety course around, teaching police, ambulance, fire and personal security officers how to safely drive at high speeds. Their site needed to reflect the amazing skills you can learn, without attracting anyone who might want to drive fast against the law.
It is was one of the first websites where we have used XHTML and CSS only, completely without table design. It has a simple php gallery and contact form.
Well , a picture is worth a thousand words – and that is the guiding principle that we used when making the Evasive website. It helps when you have a catchy domain name, though!
The flash dominates the design – and well it should, because the photos of the course are the most striking part of the home page. When you are looking at the photos you can almost hear tires squealing, feel a steering wheel skidding under your hands, and you get that shot of adrenaline that doesn’t normally happen while sitting at your computer. Except for that second when you realise you’ve hit ‘Reply All’ in Outlook, instead of ‘Reply’ … d’oh! We also think the flash and the huge words are a great marketing tactic – as a website that expects mostly men for its customers, evasive.ca needed to be simple, straightforward and easy to understand from the moment it loaded. That’s why no long intro spiels dominating the home page.
We were also particularly happy with how the footer graphic turned out … gets the point across while not taking attention away from the text (when it actually is needed!). High impact where you need it … so that evasive customers’ driving does not become ‘high impact’
!
