“We are looking for someone to give our site a cool look and feel. Something that will grab a potential customer’s attention while still portraying a professional look. We look forward to working with someone to accomplish this.”

We were proud to get this project; the image above is the look that we proposed at first:

While I personally love this look client was not completely satisfied. As a web designer, though I have to work with the client not against them. After long discussions we agreed on this:

Now this is a corporate website that’s not boring …

Our web marketing knowledge helped with this project. We advised the client on how to best collect email addresses, using the ‘SIGN UP FOR NEWSLETTER’ tool.

Ground Level is the best place for community advertising and the the best choice for small business owners. Their website is simple and clear. We used illustration to enhance the site’s creativity. The illustrations were made by Kinga - please check out http://www.kingazak.com for more examples.

Evasive.ca

Evasive.ca is the wildest safety course around, teaching police, ambulance, fire and personal security officers how to safely drive at high speeds. Their site needed to reflect the amazing skills you can learn, without attracting anyone who might want to drive fast against the law.

It is was one of the first websites where we have used XHTML and CSS only, completely without table design. It has a simple php gallery and contact form.

Well , a picture is worth a thousand words – and that is the guiding principle that we used when making the Evasive website. It helps when you have a catchy domain name, though!

The flash dominates the design – and well it should, because the photos of the course are the most striking part of the home page. When you are looking at the photos you can almost hear tires squealing, feel a steering wheel skidding under your hands, and you get that shot of adrenaline that doesn’t normally happen while sitting at your computer. Except for that second when you realise you’ve hit ‘Reply All’ in Outlook, instead of ‘Reply’ … d’oh! We also think the flash and the huge words are a great marketing tactic – as a website that expects mostly men for its customers, evasive.ca needed to be simple, straightforward and easy to understand from the moment it loaded. That’s why no long intro spiels dominating the home page.

We were also particularly happy with how the footer graphic turned out … gets the point across while not taking attention away from the text (when it actually is needed!). High impact where you need it … so that evasive customers’ driving does not become ‘high impact’ ;-) !

Driver Training Website

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

driverhome-copy.jpg This web page is for a driving instructor. The expected audience is people who have trouble reading english - that’s why we decided to use illustration to clarify the customer’s choices for a driving instructor. Illustration helps to navigate the website as well.

The role of images in this design is make it easier to navigate the website without fully understanding the written text.
